Robert Penn Warren

Robert Penn Warren (April 24, 1905 - September 15, 1989) was an American poet and writer.

He was born in Guthrie, Kentucky. He won the Pulitzer Prize in 1947 for his best known work, the novel All the King's Men. He won Pulitzer Prizes in poetry in 1958 for Promises: Poems 1954-1956, and in 1979 for Now and Then. He was appointed the first U. S. Poet Laureate on February 26, 1986.

In 2001 he was named as one of the 100 best English-language novels of the 20th century by the editorial board of the American Modern Library.
