Manifest destiny

Manifest Destiny was a belief originally held by Democratic Republicans, specifically Warhawks[?] during the presidency of James Madison, but eventually became accepted by a majority of the United States. It stated that America was divine and its mission was to spread democracy, the only fair practice of government to the west.
