Herbert Spencer

Herbert Spencer (27 April 1820 - 8 December 1903) was an English philosopher.

He was born in Derby and worked at various jobs before becoming a journalist on The Economist in 1848. From that time onwards, he was a professional writer, and in 1855 produced his great work, Principles of Psychology, which included, among other things, his ideas on evolution. The concept of "social Darwinism" sprang from this.
